ELLINGTON - The Crystal Lake Association has awarded the 2009 Molly West
Memorial Scholarship to Molly Ducharme, a former student at Crystal Lake
School and a recent graduate of Ellington High School.
Ducharme will be attending Dowling College in New York this fall where she
will major in environmental sciences. Ducharme demonstrated significant
commitment to the community while in high school through four years of
service with the Ellington Rescue Post 512, a news release says. She also
earned MRT and EMT designations and provided leadership as a membership
second vice president and in her senior year served as president of the
rescue post, the release said.
The scholarship was for $500.
"The primary mission of the Crystal Lake Association is to preserve,
protect, and improve the Crystal Lake community. This often takes the form
of monitoring water quality or working with town and state government to
control invasive plant species," said Walter Moody, director of the
Crystal Lake Association.
"In awarding this scholarship, funded by private donations in memory of
Molly West, a lake community resident and past president of the Crystal
Lake Association. The association honors the memory of Molly West, by rewarding the
efforts of our youth, and invests in the future."
